Heya! I'm Biff, the Creative Director of SBOON Development. We want to release these occasional Newsletters to show off unique assets like Models, Music, Mechanics, buncha stuff like that. So WE get to show off what we've been working on and YOU get teasers leading up to release that aren't just mysterious and vague renders...
Release Date
If you're wondering, "Why is it taking so long?" the answer is simple. We want to make a GOOD game. As of right now, we have around 100 unique enemies planned for release and we want to make every single one the best it can be. NOT ONLY THIS, but we are a very small team working on this out of passion, as a matter of fact- We'd like to state that there will only ever be ONE paid skin throughout the duration of this game's lifetime (likely at least 5 years.) So while we do NOT have a release date right now, keep your eyes peeled for 2027.
Why Onward?
This game is what we WANT to make and what we feele the Tower Defense Genre NEEDS. We have a deep and interesting narrative, various new mechanics(some of which inspired by games like PvZ...), a well-modeled game, a traditional TD-Style module of the game with no story or plot, known as: "Crusade."
Enemy Showcase!
This should be fun! Because NOW I can talk to you about one of our enemies and EVEN provide a compendium description!
Introducing: The Bear
The Bear is a miniboss included in the first Chapter of Onward, "Missionary." He is described as:
Bear is a large, brutish, and hulking individual. At a young age, he found a deep burning passion for exercise. He took up a hobby in hunting game for sport rather than need... This does make him detested by the hunters of the town. Now, with the tolling of his village's warning bell, he is ready to fight for his freedoms.
However, all compendium descriptions also come from a note from a member of the main crew! So here is how he is described by Patrick:
"This guy is the REAL BOSS, SEE THAT ZACK! This guy is SICK!"
Yeah... If we're honest this is quite a nonserious entry when it comes to the Crew's description.
The (Not-So-Secret) Code
I can share a mechanic we came up with but we are not yet ready to display it in-game for your view. If a tower drops beneath a certain threshold of Health, the tower will become "Wounded" till it slowly heals itself or is healed by other means. Being "Wounded" debuffs the Damage-Per-Second of the tower till Healed!
But in all honesty, Other than that? This is the section I didn't really want to make, but we want to be transparent from the start. The game is currently being recoded from the ground-up so we currently have NOTHING to show. We are excited to show off some mechanics next month but for the time being that is it.
The World of Onward
At last, my FAVORITE section! As the sole writer of Onward, I've spent the last 7 months writing a unique and special story planned out to its fifth and final chapter. But also... It's the thing I can speak least about. For some relatively spoiler free peeks, Chapter One sees the main crew of Zack, Patrick, Ally, and Brutus facing off against The Azure Faction. Battle by battle, who will reign victorious in the final act of the Chapter? What lurks on the horizon? Find out in Chapter One: Missionary.
Sick Beats for the Battlefield
Check out the Deadeye Boss theme by our composer, DarkSpirit!
Check back NEXT MONTH BRAND NEW theme!
If you're wondering why it is the theme we've already shown, we only have so many tacks so we want to conserve a lot of them.
Wrap up (no clever name)
Next we have... Okay actually that's it this time. We want to still keep SOME things under wraps till release, and of course.. we need to save some for next time😉
But! Before you go... Check out this animation for The Knight!
Well, see you all in August!
Hiring
Actually... We need some people to help us continue development! If you are a Modeler, Animator, or Musician, please let us know if you would be interested in working on Onward, or for any other SBOON Development project!
